Lincoln End-of-Year Talent Show

Lincoln Lions celebrate the last day of every school year with a talent show, featuring a variety of acts across all grade levels. Any student in grades 1-6 with a polished act are welcome to audition by filling out an audition form and returning it to the office. The talent show is held on the MPR stage.

What acts are allowed?

All singers, musicians, comedians, gymnasts, dancers, poets, and magicians are welcome to audition. Or perhaps something not listed! Think exciting, unique, and BIG! No acts involving animals, wheels, or other dangerous elements will be allowed. All CUSD safety rules will be observed. If in doubt, ask Mrs. Davis or Mrs. Hudson. Spaces are limited for singers, dancers, and pianists, so be sure to practice!

What about musical accompaniment?

  • All recordings must be submitted in one of these ways:
    • Burned onto a CD clearly marked with your name, track number, and start/stop time (for 2 minute time limit). Please contact Mrs. Davis or Mrs. Hudson ahead of time if you plan to bring a CD for your audition so we can have the right equipment ready for you.
    • You may also specify a Spotify track or YouTube link with start/stop time indicated on attached documentation (see #7)
    • You can also bring it on a thumb drive.
  • **ATTENTION SINGERS: Recorded accompaniments will not include the words being sung on the recording!
    • You may not sing along with the recording of another artist performing your selection!! You must use a special accompaniment track for your chosen song OR a “karaoke” version found on Spotify.
    • Singers using a live pianist for accompaniment must have the adult cleared as a volunteer on campus. Volunteer clearance must be done at least two weeks before auditions to allow for processing.

What needs to be included with my audition form?

  • A typed and printed copy of lyrics of all musical selections to be performed or used in a performance must be submitted for approval to the audition with your audition form.
    • If song lyrics are considered inappropriate, the selection will not be allowed.
  • For any comedy act, drama, or magic act: a typed and printed copy of the script must be submitted for approval to the audition with your audition form.
    • If script content is considered inappropriate, the act will not be allowed.
  • If you plan on wearing a special costume, you can submit a photo of it, printed, with your audition form OR wear/bring it to the audition.

What equipment is provided at the talent show?

  • Up to 2 microphones with stands if needed
  • Music stands if needed
  • Stage monitor
  • Piano
  • If you are playing electric guitar, bring your own amp so it can be mic'd.

How do I apply for the talent show?

  • The application window will open in April. Application forms will be sent to each classroom and will be available for any interested students at that time.
  • Auditions will be held IN PERSON, not online. Only students who have turned in applications (available in April, due in early May) will be allowed to audition.
  • Until applications are available, use this time to prepare your act so you are ready for auditions!

What if I have other questions?

Important Dates:

  • Applications, Audition, Dress Rehearsal and Talent Show dates to be determined.

Tips for Being Cast in the Talent Show:

  • Make sure your audition is performance-ready. This might mean having your words memorized (if speaking or singing).
  • Think BIG. It’s a big room with all the kids in the school watching, and you will need to keep their interest and attention.
  • Have a grown-up work with you to prepare in the weeks leading up to your audition. You should be practicing every day.
  • Keep your audition within the two-minute time limit. If you are using recorded accompaniment music, you need to specify the start/stop time.
    • For example: “I’ll be using _______ track from Spotify. The link is www.spotify.com/songlink. The start time is 00:00 and the end time is 01:45.”
  • Remember: if you are singing and are using an accompaniment track, you MUST be using a “vocal track” or “karaoke” version. If you need help finding this, please reach out to Mrs. Davis or Mrs. Hudson BEFORE audition week. Students will not be allowed to sing along with the original artist recording in the talent show.
